Meg Ryans Hairstyle

What is it with Meg Ryan’s hairstyle? At first glance, it looks like she doesn’t even bother with her hair. But that’s precisely the appeal: Meg Ryan’s hairstyle is purposely tousled, carefree and relaxed. It’s supposed to make you think she woke up with a sunshine face, quickly ran her fingers through her disheveled mane and ran out the door. It’s uncombed, natural sexiness – “the bed head,” as some have termed it. The basic essentials of the hairstyle with rave reviews are medium-length layers that highlight volume at the crown while shorter wisps soften the face; an undefined or off-center parting; and a blunt cut at the nape of the neck

Hairdresser Sally Hershberger takes the credit – and the cash earnings at approximately $600 a haircut – for having created Meg Ryan’s hairstyles in French Kiss, Courage Under Fire, Addicted to Love, City of Angels, and You’ve Got Mail – the look that women the world over continue to imitate.

Before you lop off your hair to join the Meg Ryan’s hairstyle look-alikes, however, you need to keep a few points in mind. While it’s tempting to mindlessly copy a favorite celebrity’s looks, you have to make sure that’s the best cut for you. Beware of copying the romantic comedy queen’s look if you have any of the following:

A round face: If your face is round or full, then Meg Ryan’s hairstyle is not for you. Her hairstyle, however, works well with all other face types, whether they be oblong, heart, square, triangular or diamond.

Extremely curly or voluminous hair: Meg Ryan’s hairstyle looks better on slightly wavy hair with less volume, but you can tame your curls with a styling mousse or gel, pulling the curls to straighten them. Her shag cut – evolved to today’s pixie cut – is actually meant to increase volume with its layers, so if you want to minimize volume, this is obviously not the choice for you.

Extremely straight, fine hair: Meg Ryan’s hairstyle will not necessarily be the easiest for you to achieve, but don’t give up before you try dousing your hair with gel and using electric rollers to capture the wave you need for this look.

Beyond face shapes and hair types, evaluate the image you’re projecting. Meg Ryan’s hairstyle has girlishness written all over it. If you tend to have a more serious, formal personality, you may want to select a hairdo that’s more sophisticated.
